What change am I not processing?
At a time of high anxiety and uncertainty we tend to cling on to the things of life and business that we find security in. The problem…even those things are not certain and change proof.
However the one thing that brings anxiety and uncertainty to the surface is the one constant we can be certain of….change!
Change reveals uncertainty but what if it could actually can be a source of certainty?
It is John Maxwell who said ‘Change is inevitable, growth is optional.’
When change happens we are often aware of the things we see change but unaware of how we are changed. This means that internally as individuals and even as companies/organisations we are playing catch up to a change that has already taken place.
Let me use the Covid 19 pandemic as an example. This was a HUGE change that happened to all of us. The biggest danger is that we gravitate toward ‘normality’ accepting that we’ve made adaptations to how we do things but not having processed what actually happened in us. We have had a cosmetic makeover but the change was a shift in the foundations of humanity.
If we are not careful we could spend the next 10 years playing catch up to the change that has already taken place. This change has impacted you, your colleagues, employees, customers and stakeholders. This is a BIG deal.
It is like a sailing boat that is out on the seas. The sailer controls the sail but does not control the force of the wind. If a sailer does not re-position the sail when it begins to blow then the boat will be re-positioned. Staying on the same spot isn’t an option.
The winds of change blow and will re-position us. Most people then spend time trying to work out what waters they are now in and which way is north. They enter transition which is playing catch up to the change that has already taken place.
‘If you don’t regularly position yourself you will be re-positioned.’
When I got married that was a date of change in my life. 22 years later the health of my marriage is connected to me and my wife working on the implication of that change and leveraging it to see an increase in the things that are most important to us both.
Change is there to be leveraged. Change reveals clues that we carry in us as individuals, as teams and organisations that unlock exponential increase in our future. However it takes a commitment and wisdom to know how to process the change that has taken place.
Unprocessed change becomes an unseen force that we are unknowingly working against.
Processed change becomes an unseen advantage we leverage catching the wind in our sails.
I help people who are determined to process and leverage change that happens to propel them forward in their mission to experience exponential increase and impact. If you would like to talk through the current change you are trying to process personally or professionally then let’s talk.
